I have a deep-rooted appreciation for the natural world, growing up near beaches and in the Catskills Mountains. When I moved to the DC area from New York five years ago, I wanted to get involved with local conservation efforts, so I decided to volunteer with organizations like the U.S. Botanic Garden, Potomac Conservancy, Friends of Mount Vernon Trail and The Nature Conservancy. I volunteered with projects that focused on planting trees, restoring coastal habitats, and doing park cleanups along the Potomac River. It has been a meaningful way for me to give back, connect with others, and help protect the local environment.
My Photography Journey
I am a self-taught photographer, and my camera is my constant companion. It allows me to engage more deeply with my environment. In late 2024, I decided to take my photography to the next level! I upgraded from my cellphone camera to a Canon Powershot G7X Mark II bridge camera, and eventually got a Canon EOS R7 mirrorless camera, so I could take better quality photos and have a better zoom. I wanted to use my passion for photography to document the beauty of Nature and wildlife in order to educate people about how to protect them. I created Nature Focus Studio on Instagram to share my images, and engage with others in the community. By highlighting the impact we have on natural habitats and local wildlife through my photos and videos, I provide actionable, eco-friendly information that helps people to adopt a sustainable lifestyle and protect our shared natural resources.
Helping Organizations Through Visual Storytelling
While participating in a cleanup organized by the Potomac Conservancy, I created a video showing the harms caused by over-consumption and non-biodegradeable waste, and this video was shared by the Potomac Conservancy on their Instagram account. I have also had my photos of wildlife featured by the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources.
Tips for Photography & Visual Storytelling
If you are interested in environmental storytelling, here are a few tips:
1. Get involved with local organizations helping to protect the environment.
2. Contact organizations to see if they offer volunteer opportunities for photographers.
3. Create content with your photos and videos, tag organizations and include hashtags to amplify the reach on Instagram, LinkedIn, Tiktok and other social media platforms.
4. Make sure you have sufficient SD cards and extra charged batteries before you go on assignment.
5. Set your camera to the highest quality image setting and RAW images for more options for editing afterwards.
My Favorite Photos
Below are some of my favorite photographs from the natural world in northern Virginia.
About Me

I love to combine my passion for photography with environmental storytelling. In my day job, I work as a Government Relations Manager at The Conservation Fund, where I support the work to secure federal funding for projects to protect land, water and natural resources while also supporting economic development in communities. Please feel free to connect with me by email or on Instagram and LinkedIn. I look forward to exploring how we can collaborate around nature photography and environmental storytelling.
