In this Spotlight article, we interview Nandita Srivastava, who serves on the DC EcoWomen Board's Communications Committee. Nandita shares what inspired her to join the Board, the environmental issues she is most passionate about and her hobbies.

What inspired you to join the Board?
As an international development practitioner with experience in food systems and climate change, I wanted to broaden my understanding of environmental challenges and solutions. Joining the DC EcoWomen board has given me the opportunity to give back and apply my skills to support the diverse local environmental community and help build a strong network of women to learn and grow together.
Can you describe your work with the board? How can community members contribute to this work?
I focus on creating and editing content for our website and monthly newsletters, building connections, and strengthening our community's voice. I recently wrote a blog about sustainable fashion where I shared the perspectives from three local fashion store owners on sustainability strategies and business challenges.
Community members can actively contribute by attending our events, signing up for our monthly newsletter, and contributing as guest bloggers to share their environmental perspectives and expert insights with the broader DC EcoWomen network.
Which environmental issues are you most passionate about and why?
I am deeply passionate about food systems transformation, sustainable agriculture, and climate mitigation. Having spent over five years as a researcher, communicator, and project manager at an international development NGO, I have observed the strong interlinkages between global food systems and climate change. As a result, I am a strong proponent of methane reduction, policy integration, capacity building, and a plant-based diet.
What are your favorite things to do outside work?

Nandita enjoying a hike in Great Falls, Virginia.
I enjoy exploring local cafes, experimenting with new plant-based recipes, hiking, and reading.
Do you have any favorite books or films that focus on environmental issues?
My favorite books are Speed and Scale by John Doerr and Regenesis by George Monbiot.
How can people connect with you?
I am currently in career transition and looking for my next opportunity and would love to connect with people working on environmental issues. You can connect with me on LinkedIn or via email at nsrivastava06@gmail.com.
