What are these sessions about?

Public Speaking:
Are you afraid of public speaking or just interested in honing your skills? If so, this workshop is for you! Learn strategies for how to be an effective and confident public speaker. Whether it is taking the lead in a meeting, speaking up in a working group, or giving your elevator speech at a networking event, brushing up on your public speaking is a must.

Financial Planning for Beginners:
This workshop will teach you how to budget and start the process of financial planning.  Perfect for young professionals just starting out in their careers!

Green Investing:
For more advanced investors, this workshop will talk about ways you can green your investments.

Workplace Wellness:
Without our health, what do we have? This workshop is all about how to be fit and healthy in the workplace. From how to set up your office for optimal health to ways to manage stress during the day, this workshop will keep you healthy throughout your career.

Resume Writing and Interviewing:
This workshop will help you improve your resume for today’s job market. You will also spend time reviewing key tips for having a successful interview. Job seekers at all professional levels are encouraged to attend this valuable session.

Running for Office:
Wondering what it takes to be one of those 20 women in the U.S. Senate? Then this workshop is for you. Understand why women are needed in office but are so reluctant to run and the programs and opportunities available for women interested in getting elected. This workshop is non-partisan and will cover all levels of elected office.

Getting to No:
Are you a “yes-lady?” You know, the kind that has the hardest time saying no to volunteer and after hour opportunities but you know you really just don’t have time or won’t be able to devote the attention the activity really deserves? This workshop will go over ways to politely decline invitations, help you choose the opportunities to say “yes” to, and help you take back some personal time to rest and relax.

Salary Negotiation:
Learn how to get a salary that reflects what you are worth. This workshop will discuss strategies for negotiating salaries and benefits even in an economic recession. The discussion will include both how to ask for a raise with a new job offer and in a current position.

Harnessing your Entrepreneurial Spirit:
Are you a crafter on the side wondering how to make some cash from your hobby? Do you have a skill you want to turn into your full time job but are wondering how to make the leap and not go broke? Then this workshop is for you. Experienced women who have taken their passion and made it their job will give tips and tricks to making it work.

Organizing Your Life:
When you are organized, your life is aesthetically, spatially, and emotionally streamlined—without the need for clutter. Useless clutter is emotionally draining, and gives us a false sense of security. Learn how to rid yourself of this clutter – the Eco-Friendly way.

Key Note Speaker Bio:

Dr. Betty Spence, Keynote Speaker. Dr. Betty Spence is an author, speaker, and expert on women in business and currently serves as president of the National Association for Female Executives and Entrepreneurs (NAFE), the nation’s largest women’s professional association. She created the annual list of the “NAFE Top Companies for Executive Women,” a benchmark for corporations on women’s advancement. She chairs the NAFE Roundtable, and also advises companies on the advancement of women and conducts corporate workshops on leadership. Formerly Vice President of Communications at Catalyst, she wrote Be Your Own Mentor, advice from corporate women on propelling your own advancement published by Random House in 2001. She also oversaw the publication of two other Catalyst books, Creating Women’s Networks and Advancing Women in Business: Best Practices from the Corporate Leaders. Dr. Spence has appeared as an expert on women’s business issues on the CBS Evening News, ABC Nightly News, CNN’s Nightly Business Report, and Bloomberg Television. She is frequently quoted in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal and Washington Post among others. A former writer for the Los Angeles Times and The Christian Science Monitor and a former professor of literature, Dr. Spence holds a Ph.D. in English and serves on the boards of directors of the Girl Scout Council of New York City and Girls Learn International.
