Studies have indicated that effective managers take time and effort to manage not only relationships with their subordinates, but also those relationships with their bosses. By understanding how to effectively brief and staff your superiors, you are working to obtain the best possible results for you, your boss, and your organization.
This workshop will teach you some of these important skills such as adapting to your boss’s leadership style, preparing them for high-profile briefings, and facilitating high-level performance that will help you in your current position or help you land your next dream job.

Speaker Biographies
Kathleen Frangione – Executive Vice President, McBee Strategic
Kathleen Frangione joined McBee Strategic in November 2010 after more than 10 years of policy experience in the energy and environmental sectors. Prior to joining McBee, Kathleen served as Senior Policy Advisor on the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, where she handled climate change, energy, and environment issues for Chairman John Kerry (D-MA). In this capacity, she served as Senator Kerry’s lead staffer on domestic climate change issues, and led his efforts to craft comprehensive, bipartisan climate change legislation. In addition, Kathleen served as Senator Kerry’s primary staffer on all issues related to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change process and the international climate change negotiations. Prior to joining the Committee, Kathleen served as a Legislative Assistant in Senator Kerry’s personal office, where she oversaw all domestic and international environment and energy issues. She has also worked for several environmental and conservation organizations. Kathleen has an undergraduate degree in environmental science from Harvard College, and a Masters degree from the Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies.
Chani Wiggins – Principal, The Joseph Group
Chani Wiggins brings 13 years of Congressional and Executive Branch experience to The Joseph Group.
Wiggins most recently served as the Assistant Secretary of Legislative Affairs at the Department of Homeland Security, under Secretary Janet Napolitano and the Obama Administration. She led the development and implementation of the Department’s legislative strategy on aviation, cyber and border security and disaster response and recovery. Wiggins also was instrumental in coordinating communications with Congress during the crises that came under DHS oversight including the H1N1 Flu Pandemic, the Christmas Day attempted airplane bombing and the BP Oil Spill.
During her career in Congress, Wiggins served as Senator Claire McCaskill’s (D-MO) Legislative Director, where she promoted the Senator’s position on government oversight and reform through various initiatives, including introduction and passage of legislation to give federal inspectors general more independence and authority. Before Senator McCaskill, Wiggins served as former Senator Mark Dayton’s (D-MN) Deputy Chief of Staff; former Congressman Bart Stupak’s (D-MI) Legislative and Communications Director where she also handled telecommunications and homeland security policy; and as a senior aide to Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) on judiciary and labor issues.
Wiggins is also known for her relationship-building. In 2007, she co-founded the Bipartisan Senate Legislative Directors Group. The Group, comprised of all 100 Legislative Directors, regularly met to strengthen relationships across party lines. It continues to exist today.
Wiggins is a Florida native and a journalism graduate from the University of Florida. Her first career was in journalism, where she was a reporter for The Albany Herald in Albany, GA and The Tampa Tribune, in Tampa, FL.
Laura Haynes – Environmental Legislative Assistant, Senator Thomas Carper (DE)
Laura Haynes has been Senator Carper’s senior policy advisor for energy and environment issues since 2008. She also serves as his subcommittee director of the Senate Clean Air and Nuclear Safety Subcommittee in which he chairs. Prior to her current position – she worked on clean air, climate and energy related issues at the Environment Protection Agency, Department of Agriculture and State Department. Early in her career, she worked as a legislative assistant for two different U.S. Congressmen from Tennessee – Congressman Jim Cooper and Congressman Bob Clement.
She has her Masters in Science in Public Health from the University of North Carolina and a Bachelors of Science from the University of Tennessee.
