(mini) Book Club: National Parks
Following up on our March reading of Letters to Yellowstone, we will continue to explore our society’s relationship to nature and wildness, which can often only be explored within our National Parks system. Now that the weather is warming and blossoms are bursting, let’s get together for a discussion inspired by our commonly shared treasures. Come learn about conservation challenges within the parks and discuss your own experiences and adventures within our nation’s gems. We invite you to read and listen to the following short pieces before joining us at Teaism on April 4th from 6:30-8:00 pm for a lively discussion.
The Selections
- A 6 minute PBS video snippet of John Muir and Theodore Roosevelt in Yosemite
- An excerpt from Timothy Egan’s “The Big Burn”
- A 6 minute NPR audio clip entitled “Taking Diversity to the Outdoors”
- Article entitled “Impacts of Fracking in the Marcellus Shale Threatens National Parks“, with further reading on Fracking 101 and the movie trailer for Gasland
