About Capitol Hill Bikes:

Capitol Hill Bikes was founded on the principle that cycling should be fun for everyone.  We believe that bike shops should provide a warm, welcoming environment for cyclists of all ages and skill levels.  We are committed to serving the needs of our customers from Capitol Hill and surrounding communities.

Capitol Hill is home to a growing commuter community and we have the bikes and accessories to make your commute more enjoyable.  Many of our customers also ride for pleasure, exercise, or as a fun family activity.  We especially love working with beginners and those just returning to cycling!

As a women-owned shop, we are eager to make Capitol Hill Bikes a comfortable place for women and girls of all ages to shop, learn and experience the joy of cycling.  We have a great assortment of women-specific products, and friendly, knowledgeable staff members who can answer all of your questions.

Our History

Co-owners Denise D’Amour and Laurie Morin opened Capitol Hill Bikes (CHB) in May 2000, taking over the location of the former Metropolis Bicycles at 709 8th Street, S.E.  In February 2010 CHB moved just a few doors down to 719 8th Street, SE and has been there ever since. For the last thirteen years, CHB has been the only independent bike shop on Capitol Hill.  Our neighborhood is a great and growing cycling community, filled with year-round commuters, messengers, enthusiasts, and families with children who enjoy the trails around Washington, DC. Many Hill residents also enjoy the many charity rides of the area and the local racing scene. CHB has the bikes, service, and enthusiasm to fulfill the varied needs of the growing DC bike community!
