Our Events

EcoHour

DC EcoWomen hosts a speaker series each month where a successful woman in the environmental field discusses her job and offers career advice.

EcoHour takes place from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month at Teaism Penn Quarter in Washington, DC.  Learn more about past speakers here. Though we hold several co-ed events throughout the year, EcoHour is reserved for women only.  Please hover over the Resources tab on the homepage to find past EcoHour Speakers.

Ongoing Programs

Our events are geared toward bringing eco-minded women together to learn, discuss, network, and have fun.  See our calendar for upcoming events!

 Book Club

Our book club meets every month to discuss a book or series of small articles, blogs and podcasts with an environmental angle. Our discussions are cozy, chill, and open-ended. They are always open to new members and there’s no obligation to come to every session. Learn more >>

Films

We like to explore environmental issues through the arts. We often host screenings and discussion of an environment-themed film, usually at a member’s home. We also organize outings to environment-related arts events in the Washington, DC area.

We seek to provide DC EcoWomen members the opportunity to learn more about the environment and sustainability, to examine humanity’s cultural links to nature, and to meet and share ideas with like-minded women. Learn more >>

Eco-Outings

As women who are passionate about the environment and outdoors, we are working to create a community of people who spend time playing outside together. Past Eco-outings have included hiking, working on urban farms, visiting sustainable wineries, potlucking in parks, and more.

We are always looking for more ideas that will get us outside to learn, appreciate, or enjoy the nature just outside our doorsteps.

Photo Contests

Once per year, DC EcoWomen hosts a photo contest to showcase artistic images taken by our members that highlight women in the environment, conservation in action, natural beauty, travel, and iconic urban landscapes. Learn more >>

Mentoring

DC EcoWomen is developing a mentoring program in which our members can form lasting relationships with influential women in the environmental field where they can get advice and guidance for advancing their careers.  These women are selected based on their professional accomplishments and alignment with our organization and mission.  Many of our mentors have spoken at EcoHour, our ongoing lecture series.

To begin this program, we are holding a series of Mentoring Dinners, where 6-8 women can sit down to dinner with one experienced mentor.  These dinners provide a unique opportunity to have access to an experienced women in the environmental field in an intimate setting. Check our blog and Flickr pages for event recaps and stay informed about future mentoring program activities by joining our email listserv.
