Catherine Fahey
Communications Committee
Catherine is a tree hugger by occupation, an aspiring athlete by trade and a computer buff by night (an avid Apple geek). She is a Colorado native and misses the mountains and microbrews! Joining EcoWomen’s communication committee was a no-brainer when she moved to Washington, DC in 2008. She is a techie at heart who enjoys spreading EcoWomen’s message to the community. Catherine has a Master’s degree from the University of Denver’s Graduate School of International Studies in Global Finance, Trade and Economic Integration. (What a mouthful!) In a nutshell, she has a passion for environmental issues and economic development was the pathway to study them. Currently she works for SRA International, supporting the Department of Energy as a Communications Specialist in the Geothermal Technologies Program.

Thea Graybill
Special Events
Thea grew up in Bedford, PA — about an hour outside of Pittsburgh (go Steelers). She has been living in the D.C. area for over a year now and has worked at the Environmental Law Institute (ELI) and is currently working at the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA).
She graduated with a B.A in Environmental Studies and Political Science from Albright College in Reading, PA. During her career, she was able to research humpback whales off the island of Maui; study abroad in Barcelona, Spain; and backpacking throughout Europe. She enjoys practicing her beginning cooking skills, spending the weekends outdoors hiking and camping, and traveling.
Carrie Johnson
Eco-mmunity Coordinator
Carrie hails from Yankton, South Dakota. She is a graduate of American University and works as a research assistant for a Democratic Senator from the Midwest. She is committed to numerous environmental causes and interested in renewable energy and the economic benefits rural communities could gain from harnessing their renewable resources. She wrote her senior thesis on the challenges facing wind energy development in rural communities and examined strategies to overcome existing hurdles hindering wind energy development. She is a Morris K. Udall Scholar and was selected as a USA Today College All-Star for her thesis research and involvement in environmental, indigenous, and rural advocacy initiatives.
Mary Ellen Kustin
Treasurer
Mary Ellen is a recovering math nerd who went back to school to crank out an MPP in Environmental Policy and an MS in Sustainable Development and Conservation Biology from the University of Maryland. To stay true to her numerical roots – and combine them with her passion for environmentalism – she was also able to pursue a certificate in Ecological Economics while she was there. Due to her brain crush on architects and engineers, she then studied up and became a LEED Accredited Professional. Currently, she is focusing mostly within the policy realm at the National Wildlife Federation. She and her (soon-to-be) husband Will live in Riverdale, MD with their pooch Luna. Whenever they can, they like to go play outside together.
Jessica Frohman Lubetsky
Chair of Communications Committee
Jess is the Chair of the Communications Committee for EcoWomen and has been the organization’s WebMistress for more than three years, answering EcoWomen member’s frequent questions. She currently works for the Pew Charitable Trust’s Climate and Energy Program in the Pew Environment Group as a senior associate. Jess is a volunteer with the Sierra Club and has co-chaired the National Toxics Committee. She is a blogger and editor for www.begreenminded.com, spreading tidbits about the environment and what you can do to help protect it. When not trying to single-handedly save the world, Jess likes to garden, bake yummy confections, try new recipes, and hang out with her cats and similarly eco-minded husband. She is a serious bargain shopper, coupon clipper and, a relatively recent roller coaster convert!
Cecelia Pizano
EcoWomen Archivist
Cecelia, a native to Texas, took an interest in the environment when she was a Girl Scout and took on a community project for recycling that opened her eyes to the issues. It has since been a practice and passion in her life to live green. Today, she works in healthcare as a Speech Language Pathologist. Rehabilitation is fascinating and rewarding but EcoWomen is her outlet for fulfilling that other calling for contributing to a greener and more sustainable society. She thrives on the surrounding herself with other like-minded women who never cease to impress with their motivation, intelligence and hard-work in the balance of life. When she is not busy with work and EcoWomen, you can find Cecelia out on the trails, on a yoga mat, in meditation posture, or simply planning the next big adventure.
“My favorite things about serving on the DC EcoWomen board are the inspiration I derive from my fellow board members, the accomplished speakers EcoWomen attracts, and the opportunity to be a part of something that has grown tremendously in five short years and contributes so much to other women and the pursuit of education of environmental issues.” — Cecelia
Stephanie Potts
Communications Committee
Stephanie has been passionate about environmental issues since she witnessed the sprawling housing developments overtaking farms when she was growing up in Frederick, Maryland and the pollution issue threatening the Chesapeake Bay. Stephanie completed her B.A. in Environmental Studies and Anthropology with a minor in Political Science from the University of Pennsylvania and went on to complete her graduate degree at Penn in Environmental Policy. She has worked for the past 5 years on federal environmental, land use and transportation policy issues for Smart Growth America. Stephanie tries to take advantage of the natural and cultural assets the DC region has to offer and enjoys spending weekends biking, hiking, camping, rock climbing and sightseeing.
Kelly Rand
Chair of DC Executive Board
Kelly is a consultant with Fission Strategy working on social media outcomes and promotion. She has over eight years experience as a grassroots field and online organizer leading campaigns for national and state based non-profit organizations including the National Wildlife Federation, Population Connection, the Izaak Walton League of America and Planned Parenthood of Georgia. Kelly is a graduate of the MidWest Academy as well as the Environmental Leadership Institute. She holds a BFA from the Savannah College of Art and Design.
Carolyn Szczepanski
Events Committee
Spending several years of her youth in Switzerland, Carolyn grew up hiking the Alps, exploring the woods and riding her bike for transportation. That love of the outdoors was paired with a sense of global interconnectedness as she attended an international school where her friends hailed from countries around the world. Inspired by her experiences abroad, Carolyn majored in journalism and environmental studies at the University of Missouri (with a stint studying ecology in Australia), and, after graduation, worked as a reporter for several alternative newsweeklies, most recently in Kansas City. She crossed over into the nonprofit world when she moved to DC in May 2010 to take a communications position at the Alliance for Biking & Walking. When not dabbling in freelance writing, Carolyn spends her free time riding her bicycle, practicing yoga and cooking vegan meals.

Jenny Trucano
Communications Committee
Jenny grew up in Spearfish, South Dakota, where she spent much of her free time exploring the outdoors. It wasn’t until she moved to the East Coast for college that she began to appreciate the access to wilderness that her hometown offered, and that she became passionate about environmental issues.
Jenny currently works at Small Act, where she helps nonprofits use social media, but she has also worked for a variety of environmental agencies, most recently Rare Conservation. She holds an MBA in nonprofit management and sustainability from the UCLA Anderson School of Management.
She’s addicted to yoga, coffee, and wandering the world.
